SOS from Guam!
Is Washington Online?
By Tony Artero, Bureau Chief
AGANA, Guam -- For the
eight years of the Clinton administration the once lovely Island
of Guam has endured the systematic destruction of its economic foundation
and its people's self-respect. Over this time period Gov. Carl T.C.
Gutierrez(D) has been the Clinton Agent directing local administrative
affairs on the Island. The result is a calamity of major proportions
in this place "Where America's day begins."
Guam's taxpayers are fed up with Gutierrez' calls
for a private sector and government partnerships as the way forward
for the people of Guam. While holding out the promise of something
better, he only delivers the same old drivel, dependencies and worthless
jobs, foodstamps, government housing, and abundance of government
handouts.
The United States Congress hasn't got the
gumption to encourage the People of Guam to exercise their basic
individual freedom to own and to work their own land.
So I honestly ask the American people, where
is free enterprise, liberty and justice for Guam? We the living
have waited for over fifty years since our sacrifices in WWII for
the restoration of our personal economic freedom.
Where is the Bush administration we worked
to elect? Surely he has not abandoned Guam to the evils worked on
the system by the Clinton hordes. Surely President Bush is not going
to ignore the sacrifices of the men and women of Guam on behalf
of the American way of life. Or is he?
Tell him the Chamorro Land Trust Act
handouts are here today gone tomorrow, leaving nothing to posterity.
Tell him the truth about Guam, that we need government to take its
repressive hands off individual economic freedoms.
Tell him we need to give American citizens
the opportunity to earn an honest living to sustainable economic
growth and to respect our personal dignity, family values and our
search for the American Dream, he sanctity of our personal privacy
and the joy of owning our own piece of the rock. In other words,
thank you President Bush for making sure that the people of the
U.S. on Guam have the same freedom, rights, and privileges accorded
these citizens on the mainland.
Presently, the citizens on Guam are suffering
under intolerable conditions. Raw sewage is flowing over Guam's
bread basket in Tumon, Ecoli and other fecal coliform
bacteria has contaminated drinking water, WWII ordinance and
toxic debris is a threat to safety, a comprehensive land use survey
of the entire 225 square mile landmasses should be taken care of
immediately.
Immediate action is needed to resovle issues
of serious public concern like, no comprehensive aviation nor ground
transportation safety plan in place, nor any reliable storm drainage
system, nor hearings on GovGuam occupation the land at Tiyan(Naval
Air Station), nor hearings on returning the ownership of "Urunao
Beach property" to the rightful owners.
